Moulsford hosts its first Old Moles Football Social

The bitter, cold wind didn’t deter the 24 eager Old Moles, all Class of 2018, who returned to Moulsford on 5th March for a showdown with the Moulsford Staff. It was a pleasure to welcome them and their parents back to school, just a few months before they leave their senior schools.

The match was refereed by Mr Symonds, while Mr Griffiths, former Moulsford Director of Sport and parent, was welcomed onto the Staff side, pitting himself against his son on the Old Moles side. With a spirited start from the Old Moles, it was looking as though it might be a whitewash, as they led 3-1 only part-way through the first half. The Staff showed grit and determination, leveling the match at 3-3 by half–time. The second half saw a late flurry of goals from the Staff, and a perhaps unexpected final score of 7-4 to the winning side, the Moulsford Staff. It was a very entertaining game for the many supporters, and all involved showed great enthusiasm and energy.

After the match, it was wonderful to welcome the Old Moles, their parents, and the Staff to the marquee for some much-needed refreshments, and witness the year group back together enjoying each other’s company. The Staff expressed amazement at how much some of them appeared to have transformed in five years, whilst others had remained largely unchanged and fortunately easy to recognise.

Thanks to all those who attended and helped make the event so special. We wish all the 2018 leavers good luck in their upcoming A-Levels and send our best wishes as they launch themselves into the big wide world beyond school.

Following the positive response to the event, we hope to continue to host this as an annual fixture in the school calendar for Old Moles five years after they leave us. We wait eagerly to see whether the 2019 cohort can win the shield back from the Staff.
