Harvey took part in the 13-14-year age category of the World Junior Golf Championship at the Faldo course, Amendoiera Golf Resort in Alcantarilha, Portugal. The tournament took place over three rounds between the 14th and 16th of February. For the first two days, the weather was more like Aberdeen than Albufeira, cold and very windy! However Harvey’s frequent winter practice on the Radley College golf course stood him in good stead and despite the challenging conditions, after the first 9 holes, he led the competition with a gross level par round to that point, and he finished the first round in fifth place. An outstanding second day saw him complete that round in a gross 75 (3 over the par of 72) and finish the second day tied sixth overall. He rarely went into the rough that day, driving beautifully and consistently, and found most greens in regulation. This was all the more pleasing given the weather and the level of competition. The sun shone and the wind dropped on day three, which seemed to suit the continental Europeans and North Americans in the field. With a creditable round on what remained a tough course in any conditions, Harvey finished the final day (his first ever 54-hole tournament) in an impressive seventh equal, a top-ten finish from a field of 35 talented international juniors. Well done Harvey!
